Up movie

Last night, I went to see this movie with Kaye, Margel, Kaylynne, Jaden, Levi, Tyson, and a couple of their friends. It was in 3d. I loved the movie. I highly recommend seeing this movie. There is a very truthful message that this movie brings out. Don't focus on what you haven't done in life but what you have done.

This is what Fandango had for the synopsis of the movie.

Carl Fredricksen, a 78-year-old balloon salesman, finally fulfills his lifelong dream of a great adventure when he ties thousands of balloons to his house and flies away to the wilds of South America. But he discovers all too late that his biggest nightmare has stowed away on the trip: an overly optimistic 8-year-old Wilderness Explorer named Russell.

I will probably buy this movie when it comes out on dvd.

Susan Boyle-Britain's Got Talent

I've been following this lady's performances on this show. She's from a small town in Scotland. She is unemployed and lives with her cat. One of her friends got her to audition for this show. Why she hadn't been discovered before is beyond me!! Anyway, she ended up as first runner up but I think she was robbed!! Below are a couple of her performances. The first is her first performance where she knocked the socks off of everyone!! The second is her final performance. The song is "I Dreamed a Dream" from Les Miserabe'. What an inspiration she is to me for following her dream, no matter what!! I get goosebumps everytime I watch her videos.

Harrington Memorial 5K

This morning I was in the Harrington Memorial 5k, which is held every Memorial Day. It was the 4th 5K I've been in this year. It started by the AF Rec Center, then went down to 3rd North then over to 540 West then up to 7th North then up through the cemetary then finally down to almost State St. I was worried that it would be rainy as it was last year but the weather was beautiful. I didn't run too much in this race once again because of my achilles tendon which is still a bit tender. I decided to speed walk which was a bit easier on my foot. I still made my normal time but came in very last. I didn't realize how fast American Fork runners were!! Wow!! It was the fastest paced 5k I've been in. One guy ran a mile in a little over 4 minutes. That is pretty fast in my book!! I still enjoyed the 5K even though I did come in last. I just stuck my headphones on and listened to my Ipod. I'll keep going and keep trying to do my best. Besides, I got my exercise in for the day which otherwise I probably wouldn't have.

Remembering Our Loved Ones

Yesterday, as we always do the Saturday before Memorial Day, we went to the cemetaries to put flowers on our loved ones graves. My aunts Kaye and Marylyn and my cousins Margel, Kaylynne, Mitzy, and her daughter Jennifer all went. I was able to bring my niece, Ruthie. We each brought some mums to put on the graves. We went to the American Fork, Pleasant Grove, and Provo cemetaries. It was nice being able to show Ruth where some of our ancesters are buried and to show respect by putting flowers on their graves.

Memorial Day is a day originally started to remember those of our armed services who have given their lives for our freedom. I do want to remember those men and women who have given their all so that we may have the freedoms and privelages that we have as Americans.

Memorial Day has now become a day to remember our loved ones who have passed on. These loved ones made us who we are and I love them for it. I love my mom for teaching me so many things. Among so many other things, she taught me a love of family though her example. I hope that I can be as good as she was.

Running with Angels 5k

Yesterday morning, I did the Running With Angels 5K at Thanksgiving Point in Lehi. It was held in the gardens which was so beautiful. It's one of the prettiest races I've been in.
Because, my achilles tendon has been giving me problems lately, I decided to take it a bit easy. I mostly walked at a fast pace and didn't stop at all for a break. My time ended up being 45:06.51 which averages out to about 15 minutes per mile.
This book by Pamela Hansen is a great book. I'd recommend that you read it. It's a personal story about how she copes with the loss of her two children. Also, she talks about her journey from being overweight and unhealthy to losing weight and being healthy. It's quite an interesting read.
This 5k is a race I hope to be in every year if at all possible. Next year, I'll have to get my family to come do it.

Happy Mother Day!!

Today was Mother's Day!! I've been thinking of my Mother all day today. I miss her alot and wish she was still here. I am so lucky to have had her for my mother. I wish she could be here so we could do things together like we used to. We used to go out together almost every Saturday, whether it was going shopping or just to a movie or just hanging out. She was always wanting to hear about my day. I feel so blessed to have had her in my life. I can only hope to be the wonderful person she was.

Happy Mother

The New Star Trek Movie

Last night, I went to see the new Star Trek movie with Margel, Kaylynne, and 2 of Kaylynnes boys, Jaden, and Levi. This was a movie that I wasn't too sure I wanted to see but the opportunity came so I took it. There has been at least 10 Star Trek movies made. I was concerned that it wouldn't be true to the original series which was written by Gene Roddenbury.

This movie was awesome!! It was about the original crew (Kirk, Spock, Bones, Uhura, Sulu, Chekov, and Scotty) and their time in Starfleet Academy and how they all get together. I would highly recommend this movie. It was action packed, that's for sure!! I was a bit concerned about the new people in the old characters but they all did a great job.

This is definately, a buyer, which means that I will buy the dvd whenever it comes out.

Race for the Cure

Yesterday, was the Race for the Cure 5K in Salt Lake. I picked up Margel and Kaylynne at their house about 6:30 AM then went to the Trax station at 7800 S. We met up with Mitzy and her daughter Jennifer then rode Trax to the Gateway Mall where the race started at 8:30. It was more of a walk as there were over 18,000 people there and there wasn't much room to run even if I wanted to. All of us stayed close together. Afterwards, we hung out at some of the sponsors booths where they had free stuff to give out.

This year had special meaning for me because Mitzy had breast cancer last year. She has had treatment and is doing well. Because she is a survivor, she got to wear a pink shirt instead of a white one. The rest of us wore white shirts.

It was quite amazing to see the amount of people there. There were young and old there. There were survivors and friends and family of survivors there. I really enjoyed doing this 5K not only for the exercise but for this great cause.

American Fork Biggest Loser

Well, as some of you know, I found out this week that I did not make the top 30 for AF City Biggest Loser contest. Not a huge surprise as my weight loss wasn't as big as it should have been. I'm glad that I didn't gain any weight the whole time I was in. Kim is the only one who made it in though. Congrats to her.

Mount Timpanogos Temple

Yesterday was a special day. My cousin Katie Huff went through the temple for the first time. Her sister Mitzy was her escort. Others who were there were Aunt Kaye, my cousin Brent and his wife Katie, Katies niece Sharae and her husband Dallan, and several members of Katies ward in Salt Lake. I'm so happy for her and her decision to go through the temple. It was so nice to be in the temple. I always have such a peaceful feeling when I go to the temple.

Biggest Loser weigh in

Yesterday was the 3rd weigh in for the American Fork City Biggest Loser contest. Because of my trip to Disneyworld, I was just hoping that I wouldn't gain and I didn't. I lost 4 pounds which isn't the best but pretty good considering. I ate quite well in Disneyworld. I think what saved me was all the walking I did there. I must have walked at least 10 miles a day while we were there!!
After they get everyones weight, they are going to reduce the contestants from 50 to 30. I should hear back in the next couple of days or so if I'm one of the 30.
